I admit it. I collect tea pots but I generally pass on hot tea. I know, it sounds crazy. But I suppose I’m less likely to accidentally damage my tea pot collection if I’m at a lower risk of ever using them. I like hot tea, but I’m lazy when it comes to making a relaxing drink — not much of a coffee drinker either — and usually when I’m choosing something to drink I’m using up almost all of my willpower just to choose something other than soda. On a spring day or a fall day or especially a summer day, though, I am always in the mood for iced tea. Lately, we go for the stock Lipton cold brew but when I have the option I like to branch out and try a flavored cold tea, too.

All of the iced tea means that lately my standard soda-free workday cup is an Oggi double-walled tumbler. These things have a lot of advantages:

  1. low waste
  2. has a straw! (I love straws so much I judge people that don’t ever use them)
  3. keeps cold drinks cold
  4. didn’t spill when I tossed it in the car without paying attention to how or where it landed yesterday

So, I pretty much love it. I don’t love that I only have one green straw and one blue cup that differentiate mine from my volunteer’s at my work. And even if I was the only one carrying one of these things, I’d get bored with the same cup every single day. Even if they don’t make a designy one, they have to make a pretty one somewhere, right? Sort of.

Cypress Home seems to come closest and this colorful polka-dot variety is just my summer style.

I could see the Madison’s Garden cup work for someone, too.

I got so desperate I even checked Starbucks who sometimes has a nice design … if you can find it without their logo prominently displayed … and even they stick with the simple clear cup, though it’s obviously branded. However, I did find that they have domed cold cup lids that fit their tumblers. Seems pretty handy to me.

Overall, I’m happy with the few decorated cups I found, but I think there is a lot of potential to make more unique cups that have designs rather than just a different colored cup and I am surprised no one has really exploited that market yet.
